ROBERT W. HELMS III
EXECUTIVE BOARD

Why am I Running?
I’m running for the Executive Board because we’re at a critical moment in our Local’s history. This is a rare opportunity to bridge the wisdom of our most senior members with the needs of the next generation. I’m stepping up to bring that connection to life, to represent the future of our union, and to bring fresh perspective earned through experience across the country.
A Closing Window to Learn from Our Most Experienced Leaders
Several of the most senior members of our Executive Board are nearing retirement. This election represents the last chance to serve alongside them—to learn from their decades of leadership, to work with them hand in hand, and to carry their knowledge forward. Once they’re gone, their experience leaves with them. I believe we must preserve and pass down that legacy before it’s lost.
A Voice for the Next Generation
There is currently no one under 50 serving on the board. I believe it’s time our generation had a seat at the table. We’ve come up through a different time in the trade—one shaped by new technologies, changing markets, and new challenges on the job. My voice represents not just the future of our union, but the thousands of members who deserve to see themselves reflected in our leadership.
A National Perspective, Rooted in Local 26
I’ve worked under Local 26 contracts, and I’ve also worked across the country in some of the strongest, most respected union locals—places where union density, job conditions, and brotherhood are second to none. I’ve brought that knowledge back with me, and I believe our board needs that perspective now more than ever. No one currently on the board has worked beyond Local 26, and I want to bring that broader view to help us grow, adapt, and lead with strength.
Bringing a Modern Perspective to a Time-Tested Foundation
As technology continues to shape our industry—from advanced testing systems to digital jobsite coordination—there’s value in having leadership that understands these modern tools firsthand. I come from a generation that grew up alongside this shift. My experience with evolving technology, both on and off the job, allows me to bring a fresh perspective that complements the deep experience already on the board.
This isn’t about changing what works—it’s about adding to it. By blending tradition with innovation, we can make sure our local stays strong, adaptable, and prepared for the future of the trade.
